I’ve got a real treat for you with this pattern! I’m so happy to bring you a new sweater, called The Home Girl Sweater. I decided I wanted to make a sister to The Homebody Sweater— equally as cozy and cute. With relaxed vibes n’ whatnot. I think I’ve achieved it with this beaut, and I hope you’re down to make one for yourself :)

I’m in love with the fit of this sweater. It’s designed to be worn with leggings… longer in the back so I’m all for it for these upcoming cooler months when I live in leggings. It’s got an extra long ribbing that trims all the pieces, even the sleeves. I decided to have the ribbing on the sleeves be folded up, I just love that touch!

I think this pattern is actually surprisingly very beginner friendly! It’s made up of all half double crochets, the only increases and decreases are on the front panel neckline.

The yarn I used for it was Yarn Bee Soft and Sleek DK, and I really enjoyed working with this yarn. It’s the perfect weight for garments in my opinion… Plus they’ve got some cool color options.

Here’s to incredibly cozy sweaters, that you can make with your own two hands! Hope you enjoy this one if you get to make it :)

———RIBBING———

+++++ALL SIZES:

ch 21

Row 1) hdc in 2nd ch from hook and across (20 total sts)

Row 2) ch 1, turn, hdc in BLO across row (20 total sts)

repeat row 2 until your ribbing reaches the width of your panels UNSTRETCHED (important! so it doesn’t look wonky when assembled). You’ll do the same for each sleeve. So.. you will need a ribbing for the bottom of each panel, and the bottom of each sleeve (see the image I drew in the notes section for a visual). Four ribbing pieces total.

Assembly:

Once your ribbing pieces are made, you will then sew them onto your body pieces. Above is the front panel and the bottom ribbing piece to be attached.

Free Crochet Pattern for the Home Girl Sweater - Megmade with Love

To sew you’ll place the ribbing on top of the bottom of the front panel (shown in above photo) and line up the edges( you may want to use sewing pins to secure). Then, taking the yarn needle and extra long strand of yarn you will sew into the very edges using a whip stitch, making sure to keep the tension not too tight. Sew all the way across, and repeat for the back body panel.

You’ll do the same for the sleeves. Place the ribbing on the bottom of the sleeve and line up the edges, then loosely whip stitch across along the very edges.

To finish up the sleeves you will then fold it in half, like shown in the photo above, and sew just like you did with the ribbing— along the very edges using a whip stitch with your yarn needle and long strand of yarn. You’ll sew all the way across the long open sides of the sleeve. Do this with both sleeves.

Then it’s onto the front and back panels.. You will place the front panel on top of the back, lining up the sides and tops. The back panel will be a bit longer on the bottom. Then, starting at the top of the front panel’s ribbing, you’ll sew the two panels together on each of the sides using the loose whip stitch along the edges up to your sizes’ designated spot to stop sewing for the sleeve, mentioned below (you are not sewing the ribbing pieces— you’re leaving them un-sewn).

Side note: I found that since this garment has so much texture, that it didn’t matter whether there was a right or wrong side to the pieces when sewing. If you do decide you like one side better, just place your right sides together when sewing.

For sizes SMALL & MEDIUM: sew until you’re 6.5 inches from the top of the panels

For sizes LARGE & XLARGE: sew until you’re 7 inches from the top of the panels

For sizes 2XLARGE & 3XLARGE: sew until you’re 7.5 inches from the top of the panels

After both sides are sewn, you will also sew along the top edges of the panels. Sew starting from the outside-top edge to where the front panel’s neckline begins to decrease on each side. You can see a visual in the photo above.

Next you’re ready to add the sleeves onto the body piece. Like shown in the photo above, you’ll place your sleeve inside your sweater and line up the arm hole of the body to the top of the sleeve. The seam of the sleeve will line up with the armpit.

You can use sewing pins to keep the two from shifting while sewing… But you’ll sew along the very edges with whip stitch again all the way around the arm hole, attaching the sleeve. Do this for both sides.

Something you may want to do, is tack down the ribbing of your sleeve once folded up. This prevents it from slipping down as you wear it. You could just make some passes with your needle and yarn in a couple spots on your sleeve, connecting the ribbing to the sleeve. I did it in two spots, like shown in the photo above.

And after your pesky ends are woven in, badda-bing, badda-boom!! You gots one cool sweater to show for it. How fun! I mean, not the weaving in ends part, but the whole you having a new completed sweater sure is! I hope you likey. If you make one yourself tag me over on Insta, so I can marvel :)

Until next time hookers!!

So not trying to freak out too much but I FINISHED MY VERY FIRST BLANKET. In over 15 years of crocheting I never, not once, had the desire to complete a blanket. They seemed like way too much time, plus I get bored easy. But I did it. And I’m here to share the pattern with YOU. Hope you like this one, I’m not going to lie I think it’s the dopest blanket in all the land.

I thought it’d be super cool if I put a spin on the traditional chevron blanket, to make it oversized—and with some trial and error it came to life! I think the chevron aspect is what kept me interested in finishing this blanket… It’s a lil somethin’ special without being over the top.

I found that after I did a row, I didn’t need to even follow the pattern or count , you just kinda learn where you need to put the increase and decrease stitches. So if you’re wondering, YES this is the perfect project to work on while you watch that new series you’ve been eyeing on Netflix (I watched “In the Dark” while making this).

The size of the blanket I made was a “throw” size, measuring about 65”x48”. I did include in the notes section instructions for making different sizes. Plus I think you’ll be really pleased with the feel of this blanket. Especially if you use the yarn I did, Yarn Bee Soft Secret. It’s so unbelievably soft, and that sheen it’s got…. woo-wee!

There’s also a tutorial included in the pattern, showing how I made and attached the monstrous tassels. It may or may not involve one of my son’s books. ;)

I hope if you’re anything like me, and feel leery of taking on a blanket, that you give this one a try. It’s simple enough to be a beginner blanket, and also has enough texture and interest to not be boring.

What you’ll need:

-2,100 yards of category 4 (worsted) weight yarn, 300 extra yards for big tassels (7-8 skeins of Yarn Bee Soft Secret in color “Mushroom”)
-size k (6.5 mm) hook, or size needed to obtain gauge
-yarn needle
-book, or 6” flat object to make tassel
-hot glue gun
-scissors

Gauge:

15 dc in BLO by 7 rows equals a four inch square

Abbreviations:

ch=chain, dc=double crochet, st(s)=stitch(es), BLO=back loop only, dc3tog=double crochet three together

Notes:

ch’s at the beginning of rows do not count as sts

the pattern for this blanket measures 48” x 65”. You can customize the width by adding or taking away multiples of 80. Each multiple of 80 equals about 16 inches. And to customize the length all you need to do is add or take away rows. Below is a handy chart from Good Knit Kisses to give you the average measurements of each blanket size.

Making and attaching the tassels:

Grande Chevron Blanket - Free Crochet Pattern - Megmade with Love

To make the jumbo tassels, I grabbed a book of my son’s to wrap yarn around. It measured about 6 inches wide. You could cut a 6” wide piece of cardboard also. I wrapped the yarn around, (not too tight) spanning a couple of inches wide.

Grande Chevron Blanket - Free Crochet Pattern - Megmade with Love

To prevent the tassel from shedding I used hot glue. So every now and then I’d line the top with a thin line of hot glue, then wrap it over it before it cooled. I did it a couple more times each tassel, making sure the hot glue was covered before finishing wrapping the yarn.

Grande Chevron Blanket - Free Crochet Pattern - Megmade with Love

Once the tassel was my desired thickness, I cut off the yarn and slid a long piece under, through the middle of the wrapped yarn (like shown in the photo), and tied a knot. You’ll use this piece of yarn to attach the tassel to the blanket.

Grande Chevron Blanket - Free Crochet Pattern - Megmade with Love

Then I slid the yarn off the book, and tied the knot tighter on top so it’d be secure.

Then I took another long strand of yarn and tied it around the outside of the tassel, about an inch down. I made sure it was extra tight. Then I wrapped it around the tassel a couple more times and tied another tight knot.

Grande Chevron Blanket - Free Crochet Pattern - Megmade with Love

Then to finish the tassel, you will cut the bottom loops, and trim it up to be even.

Grande Chevron Blanket - Free Crochet Pattern - Megmade with Love

I created 7 tassels for the blanket, one for each point on both ends.

Grande Chevron Blanket - Free Crochet Pattern - Megmade with Love

Using the top piece of yarn on the tassel, thread through your yarn needle and sew to each point on the blanket. You’ll pass through the very end of the blanket…

Grande Chevron Blanket - Free Crochet Pattern - Megmade with Love

Then insert the needle through the top of the tassel. Pass through the blanket and tassel as many times as it takes for a secure join. Once it was secure, I tied a double knot to the other strand of yarn from the tassel then weaved them into the blanket. Repeat for each tassel, then your beautiful blankie is complete!

And cheers to finishing blankets! I hope this one converts you like it did me. You may have to look out for more blanket patterns in the future, because I’m hooked. Hehe pun intended.

Happy hooking,
Meg
